Marangu Route 6 Days and 5 Nights: Kilimanjaro Hike

Trip Overview

Are you ready to stand atop the Roof of Africa? The Marangu Route 6 Days and 5 Nights Kilimanjaro Hike is your invitation to one of the world’s most iconic adventures. This classic route, often called the “Coca-Cola Route,” is renowned for its comfortable hut accommodations and gentle ascent, making it ideal for first-time trekkers, families, and seasoned hikers alike.

Your journey begins in Moshi, a lively town nestled at Kilimanjaro’s base. After a warm airport welcome, you’ll settle into your chosen lodge—Chanya Lodge, Bristol Inn, or Babylon Lodge—where your guide will brief you and help you prepare for the climb. The adventure starts at Marangu Gate, where you’ll step into lush montane forest alive with exotic birds and playful monkeys. The trail winds upward to Mandara Hut, your first mountain refuge nestled in a forest clearing.

From there, ascend through moorland and heather to Horombo Hut, with sweeping views of the twin peaks, Mawenzi and Kibo. A full day at Horombo allows your body to acclimatize, with the option to hike to Mawenzi Hut for even better adaptation. As you climb higher, the landscape transforms into a stark alpine desert en route to Kibo Hut—your launchpad for the midnight summit attempt.

Summit day is a true test of spirit. Under a canopy of stars, you’ll push past Hans Meyer Point and Gillman’s Point, finally reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters—Africa’s highest point. After savoring the sunrise and snapping summit photos, descend to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest. The final day winds back through rainforest to Marangu Gate, where your summit certificate and a sense of triumph await. Celebrate your achievement back at your Moshi lodge, or extend your adventure with a safari or Zanzibar escape.
